Questions and answers

Short answers. Where there is more to say, a link leads to the full page.

Before the cleanup

When can the cleanup start?

After the police and the medical examiner's investigator have released the home. The company can usually plan the job on the phone before then.

Do I need to be there?

Someone has to let the company in and approve the work. It does not have to be you, and you do not need to see the room.

Should I clean anything first?

No. Keep the door shut and leave it for the company. Cleaning up blood yourself carries a real risk of infection.

What about the smell?

Keep windows closed and do not run fans or air fresheners. The company treats odor as part of the job.

Cost and payment

How much will it cost?

That depends on how many rooms are affected, what has to be removed, how long it was before the person was found and how far the waste has to go. The company will explain its price after hearing what happened.

Does Florida help pay?

After a violent crime, the state's victim compensation program can repay cleanup at the victim's home or in their vehicle. Who pays has the details.

Will insurance pay?

Some policies cover some cleanup and many do not. Only your insurer can tell you what yours covers.

Do I pay this website?

No. This site is paid by a referral network when a call leads to a booked job.

During and after

What happens to belongings?

Tell the company what matters before it starts. Items that cannot be cleaned are removed; ask to approve anything beyond that.

Will the neighbors know?

Ask the company for an unmarked vehicle and plain clothing on arrival if that matters to you.

Does the number work outside Port St. Lucie?

Yes, in Fort Pierce and Stuart and the areas listed on the service area page. Give your street address when you call.

Is there someone to talk to about what happened?

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline answers calls and texts at 988 at any hour (988lifeline.org).

Ready when you are

Call when the police and the medical examiner have finished and you are ready to talk about the cleanup. A company will ask what happened and where, then explain what it would do.

Talk to a cleanup company

An independent company that works in the Port St. Lucie area. You decide whether to hire it.
